In 2022, Team Silent announced Silent Hill f was going to be written by Ryukishi07. As a long time Umineko fan, I immediately started joshing around about this in the Silent Hill fandom. "You are all going to have to deal with us Umineko-heads parachuting into your fandom with a pile of spreadsheets ready to argue that there aren't any actual monsters in Silent Hill."  Then I thought "wait...that actually might be fun to write." When I sat down to plot it out I actually found lots of interesting side notes and rabbit holes in Silent Hill 1 that lent itself to just this kind of analysis, and a core message that I actually really appreciated being reminded of, since I hadn't played Silent Hill since 1999. I invented a Great Detective and his sidekick, and it all started to come together.

So here it is - a sound novel fangame based on some of the ideas Ryukishi07 put in Umineko and the events of Silent Hill 1. There are no choices or anything here, you're just reading to read it.  It's approximately 40,000 words long, so think of it as a "novella" in length. There are save states so you can put a bookmark wherever you like.

It does contain extensive spoilers for Silent Hill 1 (1999). It arguably is a minute examination of the events of Silent Hill 1 (incorporating some of the inconsistencies in the later supporting material as well), so if you aren't looking for that, skip this.  You don't need to know anything about Umineko though - none of the characters from Umineko appear, I just use the "style". And if you haven't played Silent Hill 1 in a while, don't worry, there's a character who tells you What Happens In Silent Hill 1.

Shout out to the testers who made this possible: Countess Lita, Claire Mulkerin, Anybody149 , and Ramy@Higucord.

Content Warning: Silent Hill 1, in my opinion, is a game that is about many varieties of child abuse and parental anxieties. While there is no on-screen abuse depicted, and the discussions are not graphic, the story involves the sexual, medical, physical, spiritual and emotional abuse of a vulnerable child. Period-accurate homophobia is also portrayed.
